I'm
walking into a FedEx facility to pick up a very special package. I
present my doortag to a clerk. A few moments later a hard-working
employee comes out with a large white box in his hands:
FedEx Employee: "This is a heavy computer. All we get are Dells. What kind of computer is this?"
Me: "Uhh, well this isn't a computer. It's part of one though."
FedEx Employee: "Oh yeah?"
Me: "Yeah, it's a power supply..."
FedEx Employee: "Uhwhat? Damn."
About an hour
later, I arrive at home, and only after carrying the box a little ways,
finally laying it down inside my home on the floor did I echo the one
word said previously. Which was. DAMN.
The Turbo-Cool 1KW-Quad SLI PSU
The TC1KW4E is PC Power & Cooling's
latest offering to the computer enthusiast. This is basically a 1KW,
but with the modification of adding a dedicated 36A to your graphics
cards. Video cards are becoming more and more advanced, and with this
advancement in technology, there is a need for something rather basic:
more power. The more advanced the video card, the more power it needs
to breath life.
The Turbo-Cool 1KW-Quad is PC Power & Coolings flagship series which sits alongside the 1KW.
Quad SLI
If you're in
the market for a Quad SLi system, it will still be a while because
currently, the GeForce 7900 GX2 cards (~$925) are only available to
manufacturers of high-end systems. nVidia says the new cards will be
available exclusively to professionals because the GX2 cards require
much more knowledge of system integration and power management. The
real reason for keeping the cards off the retail shelves is not
completely clear, but it could have something to do with creating more
of a demand for the cards.
The price of
the cards will predictively come down in the future after businesses
who buy these cards in quantity (i.e., Alienware) manufacture enough
high-end systems. Quad SLi is the next step in reaching amazing video
quality for not just PC Gamers, but any other interest which deals with
image manipulation at high resolutions (such as watching DVD (or even
HD-DVD) movies on 30" LCD monitors).
Why Purchase A Quad SLI PSU Now?
Well, it comes
down to upgradability. Since PC Power & Cooling have already
created a PSU which will support Quad SLi, you can easily use the PSU
for your current system, and when Quad SLi becomes more viable within
the next year, you won't have to buy another PSU or mod it. That's a
big convenience and that's exactly why I chose the TC1KW4E (Quad Sli
PSU) over the 1KW. If you're thinking about the 1KW series, the Quad
Sli version is the wise choice for future upgrades of powerful video
cards. You won't need to purchase additional adapters for your PSU or
any modifications at all. And since PC Power & Cooling PSUs are a
long-term investment, it only makes sense to purchase the Quad SLi if
you foresee running at least two video cards.
